In fact the child had to throw a fit before (Dad), whoops, a slip of the tongue, would give back the mallet so the child could have fun beating the pegs into the 'ground'. Just an expression when you pound them down even with the surface. Once that is accomplished then you simply turn the unit over and begin the process all over again. It's a never ending enjoyment for the youngster, what ever the age. Once upon a time c.1995, we filmed a group of (13) kids, ages 20 months to 8 years old, with one 13-year old to sort of be a baby sitter, playing with our toys, games, and children's furniture pieces, in a wide open area at a major TV studio to capture the kids playing with our educational products without them seeing us. The parents were behind a two-way glass mirror so they could keep an eye on their own kids without being seen. We had (3) large TV studio cameras filming from different angles. The point I want to make is we filmed for (2+) hours with no breaks (and ironically, no potty breaks were ever requested by the kids), and the entire time a 20 month old boy played with the Pounding Pegs, not giving it up even to older kids when they tried to take it. He started out sparingly hitting the pegs to some degree. By the end of the filming he clasped both hands on the handle of the mallet and with it over his head and swinging down as hard as he could, to literally try to smash it to smithereens. The look on his face at the beginning was bewilderment, but by the end it was a determined look that could kill. YET, with all of that pounding, banging, beating, it didn't look for the ware. I really think that the older kids didn't bother him as they felt he might turn on them and they would get the worst of it. Just kidding, they simply knew it wasn't worth it to have some little 20 month old kid crying his eyes out. (Now, if Mom was around in close proximity, they might have anyway just to rile her up. What can I say, kids will be kids.)
